About the Dining Inn

The House

The George/Davis House is listed as one of Juneau’s historic sites and structures and was originally built on 5th Street in 1904 for Juneau’s then Chief Draftsman for the Surveyor General Office (Martin George). George was the father of Wallis George, one of the builders of the famous Baranof Hotel. The house was bought by the Davis family in 1927 and when condemned to make way for the Capital School in 1928, was pulled and pushed with man and horse power, up the hill and around the corner to its’ current location on Seward Street. Throughout the renovation and remodel process we have done everything possible to maintain the original ambience and structure of this impressive home.

Facilities and Accommodations

The George/Davis House, Mullins House and now Dining Inn is a historic downtown Juneau home with all the comfort you’d expect from an exclusive private hotel. The Dining Inn is nestled at the base of Mt Juneau overlooking the picturesque town of Juneau itself. The inn comprises 3 floors, the 1st floor is my home, the 2nd floor can be rented as either a 3 bedroom apartment or as individual rooms. The 3rd floor is designed to be rented as a 3 bedroom apartment only. Each floor provides a well-appointed full kitchen, living and dining areas for 6-8 with TV and DVD player and Wi-Fi throughout. Of the 3 bedrooms on each floor, two are queen size and one has a bunk style bed with twin/queen (sleeps 3). Each floor has a spacious bathroom with Jacuzzi bathtub and there is an additional full bathroom, accessible for all guests, on the 2nd floor to accommodate busy times of the day. Décor and Furnishings are both luxurious and comfortable, with local native artwork and antique furniture (some dating back to when the house was 1st built). Also on the 2nd floor is a mini-gym with Bowflex all-in-one weight/workout equipment and a Schwinn electronic stationary bike with heart monitor. Next to the gym is a state-of-the-art steam washer and dryer and 7 cubic foot chest freezer for everybody’s use.

At any time of the day you are welcome to relax in the 1st floor sunroom, while watching children and pets play in the Capitol School Park. You can also relax in the fenced backyard (to keep small pets in and bears out) with herb garden, outdoor deck, fire pit, propane area heater and fantastic gas barbecue for all to enjoy. Small pets (under 20lbs) are welcome upon approval.

About the Owner

The Dining Inn is owned and operated by Australian/Alaskan, Deborah Bowes. This is her first venture into the accommodation business and she is very excited to welcome visitors into her new home. Bought by her in September of 2012, she has worked hard over the last 12 months to create a unique and exceptional place to stay in Juneau. The Dining Inn is said to be the first “official” Vacation Rental By Owner (VRBO) in this small town. Deborah made Juneau her home (with some periods spent back in her home country) after sailing here from Australia on a 94ft yacht back in 1991. She has worked in a number of bars, restaurants and hotels in town (estimates exceed 15 establishments) and is more than happy to provide guidance on where to eat, drink and socialize. Deborah is an experienced gourmet cook and would love to discuss preparing a special feast for a private party anytime. Having also worked for various tour providers, she is on hand to help you plan and book your holiday adventures, either before or during your stay.
